My Approach

How Coaching at Getting Clear Works

At Getting Clear Coaching, my approach is to help you turn your challenges into accomplishments – in whichever way that looks for you. You will learn how to identify, own, and work from your personal strengths. You will acquire useful tools, strategies, and resources to help you accomplish goals and manage everyday tasks at work and in life.

Together, we’ll focus on your upfront goals (managing ongoing, everyday, and immediate challenges) as well as your big picture goals (your personal and professional aspirations in life). Most importantly, you will transform that nagging negative inner critic into a supportive objective inner voice.

How does coaching work?

It starts with a free introductory consultation (via phone or Zoom).
In this introductory conversation, you will tell me why you are interested in coaching, what you most want to change or achieve in your life, and what you are looking for in a coach. You will have questions about coaching and me. This is an opportunity for both of us to learn more about each other.

Once you choose me as your coach, I send you paperwork to complete. In these documents I ask questions about your school and work experiences. I want to know more about healthy habits and challenges you have related to optimal self-care (eating, sleeping, exercising, de-stressing, etc.).

Our first session will be a 90-minute conversation. During this time, we will discuss the information shared in your paperwork, and truly begin fostering our partnership. I will have the opportunity to learn more about you, and you will begin discovering more about yourself and resources to support you in the next part of your life journey.

Our typical coaching schedule will include three 45-minute sessions scheduled in a month. Clients are not required to commit to coaching for a set period of time, but it is recommended that you sign up for a three month period. Some clients will participate in coaching for even longer than this. As we move along in our coaching, our sessions will likely be scheduled with two to three weeks between them.

Occasionally, there will be clients who skip the 90-minute introductory session and dive right into the standard 45-minute coaching sessions. This scenario is typically reserved for individuals who have many years of experience living, working and understanding their ADHD.

Students will be scheduled more frequently in the beginning of our coaching together. The length of the session will be adjusted to best support their schedule. Typically, we taper off our sessions as we move further into coaching.

What does a typical coaching session look like?

Our coaching sessions are collaborative and tailored to your goals.

At the beginning of each session, we will:

  • Set a loose agenda, or I will ask you what you most want to talk about today.
  • Talk about important things as they come up. It is my role to keep us on track while balancing flexibility.
  • Talk about what happened since the last session: actions taken, actions not taken, realizations and challenges.
  • Address challenges by looking at them objectively. Together, we identify the knowns, assumptions, untapped resources and choices ahead. I will always help you recognize negative thinking and give you the opportunity to practice objective supportive thinking.
  • Each session ends with doable next action steps.

As your coach, I will:

  • Listen with respect, objectivity, and understanding.
  • Focus on your journey, goals and next steps.
  • Brainstorm and problem-solve with you.
  • Ask questions to challenge you and help you get clear.
  • Help you let go of what’s unimportant, organize what’s left.
  • Explore resources – tools and strategies.
  • Invite experimentation with planning and problem-solving.
  • Pace the journey and help you create more life balance.
  • Identify wins clearly noting realizations and accomplishments.
  • Reframe challenges and demystify perceived obstacles.
  • Support optimal self-care via healthy body–health brain awareness
  • Applaud and recognize your accomplishments.

Consults

I specialize in working with adults, creatives, corporate clients, and college and grad students who experience ADHD in their everyday lives.

Additionally, I also help those who live with, work with, or otherwise support an individual living with ADHD challenges. Parents, family members, friends, and other supportive or concerned parties may request a consultation to better understand ADHD, their role of helping and supporting, and explore available resources. This is also available for employers in the workplace, HR and supervisory staff.
